NBD Begins Operations
NBD began operations on March 15, 1978 at 64 Hillsborough Street, Roseau, after being created by Act No. 27 of 1976 by the then parliament.
Hurricane David
Hurricane David devastated Dominica and NBD was there to provide financial services to Dominicans.
NBD gets a new name
Originally named the National Commercial and Development Bank (NCDB), the Bank was renamed the National Commercial Bank of Dominica (NCB) after it divested the (Agricultural Industrial and Development Bank (AID Bank).
NBD Portsmouth Opens
NBD opened a full-service branch in Portsmouth
Our First ATM Goes Live
NBD installed the first ATM on island
Telephone Banking + VISA
NBD introduced Telephone Banking to Dominica and was the first to introduce the VISA International Debit Card
Canefield Agency
The Canefield agency was opened.
Introducing - NBD
The Bank was privatized and was renamed the National Bank of Dominica Ltd. (NBD). In that same year, NBD established an agency on the Ross University School of Medicine campus.
Acquisition of Banque Francaise Commerciale
NBD expanded its operations by acquiring Banque Francaise Commerciale and opening the Independent Street Branch.
Introducing - P&C
A Private and Corporate Banking Centre was opened in Canefield
Bank-a-net
The Bank introduced Bank-a-net, an online banking service.
Mobile Banking Services
The Bank was the first to introduce Mobile Banking to Dominica.
ECCB Best Corporate Citizen Award
NBD won the ECCB Best Corporate Citizen Award among commercial banks in the ECCU
Transformation
The Bank undertook major renovations on all its locations to completely transform the look and feel of its banking halls
MoBanking App Launch
NBD launched its Mobile Banking App, known as MoBanking.
$1B Assets
The Bank’s assets hit the billion dollar mark for the first time
ECCB Best Corporate Citizen Award
The Bank won the ECCB Best Corporate Citizen Award for the second time.
Hurricane Maria
Hurricane Maria caused widespread devastation in Dominica. NBD became the first commercial bank to reopen its doors just 10 days later, providing essential banking services to support the nation during this challenging time.
COVID-19
Covid-19 impacted service delivery in Dominica. NBD responded by offering a moratorium to customers who were unable to pay their loans to provide financial peace of mind and implemented new digital service delivery methods.
NBD Acquires RBC
NBD acquired Royal Bank of Canada and established the Bayfront Branch. NBD also entered a new chapter as two women were appointed as Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director. Additionally, NBD enhanced its digital services by introducing Bank-to-Bank Transfers on MoBanking.
ECCB Bank of the Year
The Bank was proudly recognized as the 2022 ECCB Bank of the Year and further enhanced its digital services with the introduction of TopUp on MoBanking.
ESG Framework
The Bank launched its Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) framework.
New ATM at Canefield Branch
On October 1, 2024, NBD expanded its banking services with the installation of a new ATM at its Canefield Branch, adding to its history of digital banking innovations.
