We are aware of recent SPAM emails that are circulating in our local market.
We want to assure customers that there has been no security breach at NBD whatsoever. This is not happening because there has been a breach.
The SPAM emails have nothing to do with NBD except that whoever is sending the email wants the public to believe that it is coming from NBD so that they can trust it and provide sensitive information or click on links or download something.
This is the usual nature of these emails. This is called phishing and it is just what it sounds like. The Phisher sends out a wide net to see who they can catch and right now they are targeting Dominica and some other Caribbean islands.
Unfortunately, we live in an era of cybercrime. For some of us, this is our first experience with this, but in other markets, this is a daily occurrence so people have learned to be vigilant of suspicious emails. Our Dominican public has to learn to do the same.
At NBD, safeguarding your information is part of what we do daily, we have knowledge and expertise in that area. We want to help you to safeguard your information by providing you with the following advice. If you receive an unusual email or one that you are not expecting if you are in any doubt at all.
- Do not click on any links within the email.
- And certainly, do not provide any sensitive information
- Delete the email
If you have already acted on the email, we recommend that you change all passwords, including the one to your email account.
Just to be clear, NBD will not request that you provide your account information via email or any other unsecured means. If you receive an email requesting such information, it did not come from NBD.
Again, we encourage the public to be vigilant. Look for subtle changes in the email address or website you are being transferred to.
